The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has announced plans to complete the electric wire fence in some parts of the Queen Elizabeth Conservation Area that were previously left out.
The plans were revealed yesterday by Mr. Frederick Eria Kisame, the Chief Warden for the Queen Elizabeth Conservation Area while addressing the media at the UWA Offices in Katunguru.
Kisame said the works would be completed before June this year.
He explained that completing the fence would help to address several challenges including human -life conflicts and poaching.
The officer urged the public living near the protected areas to be positive as government works on the electric wire fencing, adding that once the project is done, it would prevent wild animals from straying into the people’s crop gardens.
Mr. Ignatius Mujulizi, a farmer from Katerera County in Rubirizi District and Mariam Ithungu, a farmer from Nkoko village in Kitswamba Sub- county, Kasese District said had been losing their crops to the wild animals for a long time.
The duo is happy after receiving a promising message from UWA.
