The South Rwenzori Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku has warned the young girls against the act of engaging themselves in premarital sex and getting involved in acts of abortion.
The Bishop argues that the young girls who have aborted several times end up becoming infertile and languish in childless marriages with a potential of family breakups.
The Prelate sounded the warning yesterday while speaking to the Christians who had gathered at All Saints Customs Model Church of Uganda Parish in Lhubiriha Archdeaconry.
He was reacting to a report that was read to him by Rev. Aeaneas Kakundere, the area Parish Vicar who revealed several challenges including early pregnancies, marriages, rampant school drop outs, some isolated cases of abortion and a surge in street kids seen in Mpondwe – Lhubiriha Town Council.
Rev. Kakundere also reported increased drug abuse that has contributed to high crime rates in the area.
In his response, the Bishop condemned some parents who secretly aid their girl- children to perform acts related to abortion in the name of letting them continue with their education without considering the outcomes. He blamed some cases of infertility among some women on the heinous act, noting that the innocent terminated souls can decide to punish the perpetrators.
The Prelate instead advised them to wait for the marriage time and have permanent and official partners than engaging in such unplanned and deadly acts.
He also asked those who have accidently been impregnated to persevere and give birth as they plan for the next course of action.
The Man of God attributed such acts to the growth of slums in urban areas, advising the parents to stop sharing residential bedrooms with mature children. ENDS
