The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kasese has warned against harassment of female learners in schools across the district, calling for dismissal of teachers who might be involved in the condemned act.
The Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira sounded the warning during his homily to the community of Kasese Secondary School, where he had not only gone for dedicating UCE, PLE and UACE candidates but also administering the sacrament of confirmation.
Rt. Rev. Kibira indicated that the teachers need to accord maximum respect to the female learners and treat them as their biological children who need to be guided about good conduct and positive morals that would determine their future.
According to him, schools should not be entertaining teachers whom they can identify for harassing female learners because they have the potential to derail them from cherishing their visions.
The bishop also discouraged the learners from bad companions, saying that they need to follow the people who bear the same vision as they have, especially those aimed at enabling them to succeed in education.
He also appealed to them to remain resilient in their education as they begin exams and have their trust in God, whom he described as the source of providence and wisdom to enable them make it.
The prelate also told parents to embrace an equal treatment of children in families, discouraging discriminations based on gender.
Kasese Secondary School’s Head Teacher, Joseph Nzukwa reaffirmed the commitment of the teachers to shape the learners in ensuring that even after leaving the institution portray a good image to the communities.
He, however, appealed to the bishop to amplify the voice of enhanced funding to schools, arguing that the government’s restrictions on payments in USE affect service delivery.
