South Rwenzori Diocesan Bishop asks Christians to restore Kikonzo culture

BY MOUREEN BIIRA

The Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku has observed need for the Christians to restore the Kikonzo culture especially on marriage as one way of eradicating domestic violence from many families in Kasese district.

Bishop Baluku made the observation today while speaking to the congregation that had gathered at St. Barnabas Kinyamaseke Church of Uganda Parish, Kinyamaseke Archdeaconry to witness the confirmation of 163 Christians into the Anglican faith.

The Bishop stressed that the adoption of the western culture on marriage was to blame for the rampant cases of domestic violence in many families across the district.

He reiterated his earlier disappointment with the modern ways of hiring functional Aunts and lectured the parents on the role of Aunts and Uncles in marriage development.

The Prelate wondered why domestic violence cases were taking lead especially in families belonging to the elites, arguing that it was not one’s level of education that makes marriage successful but their behaviors.

He used the same platform to discourage the religious leaders against the alleged online registration of people intending to marry.

He was delivering his sermon from the Biblical Book of James 1: 19 – 21. ENDS
