The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has downplayed any efforts for a loose coalition between opposition leaders ahead of local council one chairperson polls.
This week the former Busongora County South Member of Parliament Jackson Mbaju Kathika opined that there is a critical need for all opposition political parties to field joint candidates in order to increase their chances against candidates of the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM.
Kathika noted that the multiple opposition candidates on particular positions pave the way for the NRM to win because they take advantage of the disintegration.
Now, in response to the proposal, yesterday Mr Saulo Maate, the PFF focal person in Kasese says the NUP doesn’t honour coalitions given it’s the recent general election in which NUP had a loose coalition with PFF in the district but instead NUP supported the FDC candidate for the position of district chairperson yet the PFF also had a candidate for the same.
Maate says the idea to field joint candidates is far-fetched now since there is no guarantee that the loose alliance would be honoured this time round.
Maate also weighed in on yesterday’s elections, noting that the election had been monetized and also marred with voter bribery especially by candidates holding the NRM flag.
But Kasese municipality NRM chairperson Mr. Selevano Kiiro Mulhondi dismisses the accusations and argues that the opposition is simply looking for excuses for the gross losses they suffered in the women council polls.
