BY JOACKIM KULE

The Kasese District Councilor representing Nyakatonzi sub-county is concerned about irresponsible parenting practices in some families, arguing that the vice could be fueling teenage marriages and pregnancies among the young people in the area.

Mr. Ham Natuhwera says they have continued registering cases of teenage marriages and pregnancies because of the parenting gaps in some communities.

According to him, during the Covid-19 period, most children became victims of early marriages, something that negatively affected their future because they didn’t get chance of going back to their respective schools.

He therefore appeals to the parents to always take up the responsibility of monitoring their children and sponsoring their education so that they are enabled to keep in schools and complete their studies.

The District Councilor also warns the parents against the practice of permitting their school – going children to attend some social events including the wedding parties.

Natuhwera says such events expose the young people to many anti-social behaviours especially when they attend the night discos and vigils.

Natuhwera is also doubles the Chairperson Board of Governors for Nyakatonzi Seed Secondary School, reveals that they have resolved to regularly carry out pregnancy tests among the female students so that they identify the affected ones and hunt for the perpetrators for a possible prosecution.
