Mob allegedly kills a 20-year-old man in Kasese

The territorial police in Hima division Kasese district, are investigating circumstances under which a 20-year old man was allegedly assaulted by a mob, leading to his death.

Police have confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Wisborn Mumbere, a resident of Sayuni central cell, Kihogo ward Rugendabara- Kikongo Town council Kasese district.

According the Rwenzori East regional police mouthpiece, ASP Elly Maate, it is alleged that during the night of July 11, 2026, at around 0200hrs, the victim ( now deceased) left home to proceed to a funeral within Sayuni central cell Kihogo ward, and on his way he was suspected to be a thief by public members who in turn reacted by assaulting him in form of mob action and in the process, he sustained serious injuries.

The police mouth added that the Mumbere, the deceased, was later rushed to Rukoki General Hospital Kasese for treatment by his parents and yesterday night, he was pronounced dead from the health facility.

ASP Maate says, a case of assault had been initially registered at Rugendabara Kikongo police station, but has since been turned out to be murder by a mob and is optimistic that inquiries into the matter are ongoing adding that the body was examined as efforts to apprehend the culprits are being made, pending arrest for prosecution.
