Kasese Municipality has today sworn-in the newly elected Village and Parish Chairpersons with a caution to them to desist from the practice of facilitating land grabbing, criminality and corruption as they execute their duties.
The newly elected Chairpersons took their oaths from the headquarters of their respective divisions including Nyamwamba, Central and Bulembia.
The Kasese Municipality Deputy Town Clerk, Mr. Zedekiah Kambasu Kayiri, who officiated over the exercise, said the offices that they were given were the basis of their leadership in the entire urban area.
Mr. Kayiri stressed that the new leaders were not required to get involved in selling and buying pieces of land that are in question or whose ownerships are not clear.
According to him, cases of Village Chairpersons counter-signing on a single piece of land sold illegally were common hence creating a lot of tension in their respective communities.
He advised them to ensure presiding over transactions on pieces of land whose ownership is clearly known.
Kayiri also charged them with the responsibility of mobilizing the locals to join government programs including immunization, general cleaning exercise, education and the socio-economic empowerment programs.
The Kasese Municipality Town Clerk, Hajji Jamiru Kaiiru, encouraged the village leaders to interest themselves in monitoring government projects being implemented in their respective localities.
The Kasese Municipal Council Speaker, Hon. Herbert Bwambale, asked the village leaders to ensure serving the people without considering their political affiliations.
A section of the newly sworn-in leaders including Mrs. Annet Mbambu Kule of Mumbuzi Cell and Janet Mbambu of Saluti B Cell in Nyamwamba Division, pledged to deliver services that are founded on consultations, listening and collective decision making while handling community issues.
Mr. Samson Mutahunga, the former Village Chairperson for Mumbuzi Cell discouraged his fellows who didn’t go through the elections to desist from interfering with the new leaders as they execute their duties.
