Kasese district will on January 30 host the national celebrations to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Annually celebrated on December 03, the national celebrations were postponed to January 30 and Kasese district has been selected to host the day at the Rwenzori Square in Kasese town under the theme, “Improved house hold income of the PWDs.”
Addressing the press at the office of the Kasese District Association of persons with disabilities (KADUPEDI) in Nyamwamba Division, Ms Roset Monday, the Chairperson for the Organizing Committee said during the event they would account for what government has done to them.
According to her, through their SACCO, government has so far given them shillings 80 million under the Parish Development Model and Emyooga programmes.
Ms Monday, however, used the same platform to call upon parents to desist from the practice of mistreating their children with disabilities, encouraging them to register such a category of people with the organization for support.
Mr. Peter Baluku, the Kasese Municipal Councillor representing the people living with disability, commended government for considering them in all her programmes.
He observed need for the administrators of health facilities to employ sign language interpreters to help the people living with disabilities access the rightful medication.
