Rwenzori East Regional Police have arraigned three suspects in relation to the alleged murder of Pauline Masereka, a former local council one chairperson for Bwimaniro cell in Nyakeya Ward of Kyalhumba Town Council.
Masereka had been nominated as the FDC flagbearer in a move aimed at enabling him to retain his seat.
According to ASP Maate, Pauline Masereka 55 years, allegedly left home on July 22 and went for door to door campaign and he did not go back home until when he was taken home in critical condition.
Apparently, Masereka’s conditioned worsened and he was rushed to a nearby health facility where he later died.
Maate revealed that a post mortem carried out by Bwera General Hospital later revealed that the deceased had been strangled before his demise; an incident that led to the arrest of three suspects who had last been seen with the late Masereka.
Rwenzori East Regional spokesperson ASP Elly Maate identified the suspects as Jackson Siriwayo Kano, 67 who was an NRM candidate against the deceased, 30-year-old Gilbert Muhindo and Pesi Kyakimwa alias Nya-Asiimwe all of them residents of Bwinamiro Cell in Kyarumba Town Council.
Now, Maate told the media that investigations into the matter have been completed and that suspects have since been presented to Bwera Magistrates’ Court.
He has now cautioned people against engaging in practices that contravene the current legal regime reiterating that the long arm of the law would definitely catch up with any perpetrators.
