Kasese Municipality schools register low turn- out of learners

The low turn-up of pupils in primary schools across the entire district has been attributed to the social media rumours that have been circulating claiming schools would re-open on the 21st of this month.

The message was sounded today by Mr. Eric Masereka, the head teacher at Nyamwamba Primary School, who had only registered 42 pupils out of the 352 that he closed second term with.

Mr. Masereka asked stakeholders to clear the rumours in time and asked parents to engage teachers as the caretakers of their children at the different schools where they are studying from. 

Benon-Dan Masereka, the head teacher, said that he received only 352 pupils out of over 1000 pupils at the school.

He urged parents to prioritise this term since it is not only very short but also determines the learners’ promotion to another class. 

Mr. Selevano Kiribyunza, the head teacher at Base Camp Primary School, confirmed that he has registered only 159 out of the 698 pupils at the school. He reports that this could have been due to parents having engaged their children in domestic work.

At Kasese P7 School, only 151 pupils out of the 569 were present today, while at Molongoti Primary School, only 58 pupils out of the 580 were also present today, and at Kyondo Primary School, only 45 pupils were present out of over 800 pupils at the school.

The numbers of pupils remain low in the entire district, but the rural-urban areas have registered lower numbers compared to the rural areas.   ENDS
