The Principal Community Development Officer at Kasese Municipal Council has experienced concern over the increased rate of child neglect and abandonment within the communities.
Mr Wilson Lhughabwe says he has observed a persistent surge in the number of loitering kids along the various streets of Kasese town.
Speaking to Messiah Radio at his office, Lhughabwe said this increment in the number of street children is largely because many parents have abdicated their duty to nurture and groom responsible children.
He explained that the authorities at the municipality will in due course take appropriate action by apprehending parents whose children are found loitering on the streets of Kasese town.
The CDO urged the parents whose children have dropped out of school to consider enrolling them in skilling centres including Mubuku Youth Skills Centre in Ibanda-Kyanya Town Council and the presidential zonal industrial hub in Maliba Town Council.
He also emphasised the need for family planning so that parents have the only the number of children they are in position to effectively take care of.
