The Forum for Democratic Change in Kasese District has described the latest defections of its members to the ruling NRM as an indicator that they lacked the grand vision for which the opposition party was founded.
The FDC’s statement follows the defection of about 10 people from Kyondo sub-county including Mr Juvenal Muke who for four times was elected as a leader in Kyondo sub-county on the FDC ticket and Mrs Eliza Mbusa who also secured the FDC ticket for three consecutive times upon which she was elected as the district female councillor.
Now, Mr. Ronald Kabuku, the Kasese district FDC Chairperson, challenged some of them on why they are defecting to the NRM after evacuating the offices they have been holding.
Kabuku argued that it is very likely some of them had been in the opposition simply because they wanted to use it as a vehicle to occupy certain offices without appreciating the values upon which the opposition party stands.
He added that many of them are joining the NRM because they anticipate that they will possibly get jobs especially after leaving their political offices.
He, however, argued that their exit doesn’t in any way weaken the FDC party because there is an exodus of people who are quietly joining the opposition after realizing that the NRM has reneged on most of the commitments it made when it ascended on to power more than forty years ago.
Kabuku used the same podium to urge political leaders to establish income generating businesses aside so that they don’t find themselves vulnerable to the extent of joining a political party against their own conscience. ENDS
