BY JOACKIM KULE

The Kasese District Chairperson, Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi, has raised concern over the impact of floods and other forms disasters taking place across the Local Government, hence hindering the effective implementation of the government programs.

Muhindi seeks affirmative action against such disasters that do not only affect the government programs but also the people’s livelihoods.

He asserts that Kasese district has seven rivers which originate from the same source and burst their banks, spreading into the communities and causing havoc on infrastructural and agricultural development.

Muhindi noted that such disasters have led more than 160 households to stay in the internally displaced camp established at Muhokya following the destruction of their property.

The District Boss also notes that the floods affect road the maintenance programs as the Local Government has insufficient equipment.

He appeals to the government to expedite the process of procuring an additional road equipment for the periodic maintenance of the roads.

Muhindi uses the same opportunity to suggest to the government to decentralize some of the projects so that they are implemented and supervised by the district leadership rather than being contracted by the center.

He, however, extends gratitude to the Cantal Government for the timely support to the district when it experiences natural calamities.
