The Busongora County North Member of Parliament in Kasese District has expressed disappointment over what he describes as the government’s failure to fully fund the established administrative units within the country.
Hon. Sowedi Kitanywa says that whereas government has hurriedly created administrative units especially town councils, there has not been corresponding hurry in ensuring the same town councils get adequate funding to facilitate their effective functionality.
Kasese alone has a total of 14 town councils, most of which have remained under-funded and unable to fully execute their mandate.
Now, Kitanywa, who was presenting the matter to the floor of parliament yesterday wondered why many of the town councils created between 2016 and 2021 have never received any road fund to enable them open roads and improve the road network within their jurisdiction.
The legislator appealed to government to prioritise adequate funding to the newly created administrative units so that their functionality is enhanced.
