Government to revamp Katwe Salt Mining Factory in Kasese

The Government under the Uganda National Mining Company has shown interest in taking up Katwe Salt Mining Factory.

The development was revealed yesterday by the Board members of the Uganda National Mining Company during their two- day visit to Kasese district that was aimed at discussing the current status of the Salt Factory and Kilembe Mines.

Mr. James Byagaba, the Vice Chairman Board of Directors for Uganda National Mining Company stated that the government’s body aims at solving the challenge of unemployment as they add value using the current technology in every part of the country where mining will be taking place. 

According to him, their role as a company is to identify and protect all the minerals in Uganda including the Katwe Salt Mines that they have picked interests in. Mr.

Mr. Alex Binego Kwatambora, a Board Member of the Uganda National
Mining Company, reassured the people of Kasese that priority in terms of employment would be given to the local population.

Kwatampora revealed that they had made their ground survey to help them in mapping where they would start from and requested for the local support. 

Mr. John Bosco Kananura, the Katwe – Kabatoro Town Council Chairperson appealed to the leadership of the Uganda National Mining Company to give a priority to the local communities, adding that 99% of the residents depend on salt mining.
