Former Minister of State in-charge of National Guidance, Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga has called on the residents in the Rwenzori region intensify the preparations of the Mt. Rwenzori Tusker Lite Marathon ahead of the event slated for Saturday August 22.

Speaking to the press this evening at Bwiranda Hotel in Kasese town, Mr. Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga Kime said this year’s edition is expected to attract many participants and spectators compared to last year’s fourth edition.

He noted that with an expectation of thousands of runners and tourists, hoteliers and traders should stock foodstuffs and other essential supplies in plenty to avoid shortages.

He reported that to handle the expected increase in the number of visitors, organizers have put several measures in place including enhanced security to ensure the safety of participants and guests in addition to designating camp sites and tents meant to accommodate the runners and tourists.

Kabbyanga noted that the Mt. Rwenzori Marathon continues to grow as both a sporting and tourism event, putting Kasese and the Rwenzori region on the national and international map.

He called on the community members, cultural institutions and business owners to work together in order to make this year’s marathon a successful one.
