The Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance, Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga Kiime has emphasised the need for local leaders to supervise and monitor government programs within their areas of jurisdiction.
Mr Kabbyanga says when leaders interest themselves in the various projects being implemented in their areas; the technical people and contractors tend to do a good job contrary to when they know that no one is watching them.
The junior ICT minister made the remarks yesterday during an inspection of construction works on the multi-million Kinyamaseke Market and the various roads in Kinyamaseke Town Council.
Last year, the Ministry of Works and Transport awarded a total of 1.7 billion shillings to Kinyamaseke Town Council to tarmac several streets including the Holy Dove Stretch, Ngwanya-Kipanga stretch and Kasukutu and Hosea streets.
Kabbyanga also appealed to the community of Kinyamaseke to utilize the projects to boost their livelihoods.
Kinyamaseke Town Council Chairperson Ernest Kyamakya said tremendous progress has been made in upgrading the roads and the contractor was only left with constructing drainage channels and installing security lights.
He emphasised the role that the new road network will play in fostering socio-economic transformation in the urban centre. ENDS
