Kasese youth encourage to use smart phones positively

The youth in Kasese District have been encouraged to use their smartphones for positive and productive ventures instead of spreading harmful content.

The encouragement was sounded today by Ms. Clare Katete, the Programs Lead at UNDCF, while facilitating at a one- day youth training that was held at the District Multipurpose hall in Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality.

Ms. Katete urged the young people to embrace digital skills, online business, e-learning and civic engagement while avoiding cyberbullying, fake news and time – wasting content.

Ms. Lecrine Biira, a participant who owns a salon in Kanyangeya Ward, Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality, described smartphones as powerful tools.

She told the press that she uses her smartphone to learn new hairstyles and earn money through advertising her business online. 

Biira reported that since she started the online adverts, the number of clients and sales have increased.

She urged her fellow youth not to use phones negatively but to turn them into job opportunities by advertising positive services that they offer.

However,Biira reported that the area was still facing a challenge of poor networkand requested the leaders to address the matter
