Kasese district authorities have revealed that they will join other district in Uganda to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence (GBV).

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence is a global campaign that takes place annually from November 25 to December 10 with an aim of creating awareness and calling for action to end violence against women and girls.

Queengonda Asiimwe, the Kasese Senior Community Development Officer, says the district experiences all forms of Gender Based Violence including physical, sexual, psychological and economic violence a reason why they will commemorate the 16 Days of Activism.

According to her, physical violence is the most common in Kasese followed by sexual violence that involves defilement and rape especially in the sub-counties of Maliba, Bwesumbu, Munkunyu, Muhokya and Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality.

She appeals to the different stakeholders in the district including media, political, cultural and religious leaders, Civil Society Organizations among others to walk the talk against Gender Based Violence.

Mr. Eriab Begumya Ntarwete, the Kasese District Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, had earlier in a meeting with the Development Partners including Reach a Hand, Medicines Sans Frontiers, Justice Centres Uganda among others suggested the Local Government should commemorate the 16 Days on November 29, 2014.
