Kasese District today launched a five-day mass vaccination campaign against Measles Rubella as part of the government’s efforts towards preventing disease’s spread among the children in the entire Local Government.
The District Health Officer, Dr. Amon Bwambale, says that the vaccination campaign which is targeting children aged nine months and four years respectively, is a nationally recognized program whose major purpose is to enable the children to have immunities that resist against the measles virus.
According to him, Kasese is among many other districts which are experiencing measles in the communities, describing the trend as extremely contagious and can cause severe illness, dangerous complications, or death.
He revealed that Nyamwamba Division is sighted to be on the spot where many cases are recorded, calling on the parents to embrace the exercise for bettering the lives of their children.
Mr. Joshua Muhindo, who works at the National Public Health Emergency Operation Center (NPHECOC) under the Ministry of Health, said that the vaccine was safe and would be given to every child lying under the highlighted age bracket irrespective of when they had had it.
The Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu has welcomed the program, calling on the subjects to uphold health and other government programs so that they can improve their lives.
Hon. Geoffrey Kanyonyi, the Kingdom’s Spokesperson warned against myths about health programs created by people who have interests in foiling health improvement measures.
Mrs. Hellen Kamoso, a mother of three children in Kasese town, encouraged her fellow parents to support the campaign and ensure that their children are vaccinate.
