The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kasese has appealed to the commercial and trade officers in Kasese District to intensify their efforts towards mobilizing women to venture in productive business activities.
The Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira sounded the appeal yesterday while addressing the civil servants of Kasese Municipal Council shortly after celebrating mass at the municipal headquarters.
Bishop Kibira highlighted the role of the commercial officers in guiding the local people, especially women, on the most viable enterprises that have potential to enhance household incomes and in effect foster socioeconomic transformation.
Kibira argues that when women are empowered, it also goes a long way in reducing the rate of domestic violence within the communities.
The prelate also encouraged the married people to uphold the concept of accountability and transparency if they are to develop together. He stressed that the couples need to declare all their resources to one another and embrace collective planning.
However, some couples argue that they don’t usually declare the money that they have either in pockets or at banks because the women are too demanding.
Mr. Martin Safari, the LC3 Chairperson for the Central Division called for the sensitization of women on proper financial spending within the family.
