FDC faults NRM for delaying the erection of the Rwenzururu Kingdom’s founding King

BY JOACKIM KULE

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Kasese has accused the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party members in the district for allegedly influencing the delay of the erection of the monument belonging to Rwenzururu Kingdom’s founding King, Isaya Mukirania Kibanzanga.

Isaya Mukirania known by his royal title Kibanzanga I was the leader of the Rwenzururu movement and the first Omusinga (King) of the Kingdom of Rwenzururu on 30 June 1963 (Coronation date).

He was formally succeeded by his son Charles Wesley Mumbere over 43 years after his death, on 19 October 2009.

Isaya died on 2 September 1966. He was buried on Bulemba peak within the Rwenzori Mountains National Park.

Despite his monument being in place, it has not yet been erected anywhere in Kasese town.

Now, Mr. Ronald Bwambale Kabuku, the Kasese District FDC Chairperson has lashed at the NRM party members in the district for allegedly being behind the delay of the erection of the monument since it was sponsored by the Kasese District Woman Member of Parliament, Florence Kabugho, who is a member of FDC.

According to Kabuku, the NRM members are doing so for political reasons.

Kabuku says as members of FDC, they are ready to demonstrate if the monument is not erected by 01 January 2025.

In his reponse, Mr. Johnson Kamalha Kalyasa, the Kasese District NRM Publicity Secretary, described the accusations as baseless, saying the ruling party does not have anything to do with the monument.

He described the members of the opposition FDC party as ignorant about the procedures of erecting such a monument at a specific place.
