SP Luke Mbusa, the Rwenzori East Regional Community Liaison’s Officer has confirmed the development.

SP Mbusa told the press today morning at Kasese Central Police Station that that from 2023 to date, 12 cases of death by drowning in the water canal have been recorded with the latest being a 24 – year-old woman, Sylvia Nyakaisiki, who was discovered dead today morning having drowned in the same water canal.

The victim is a resident of Kisojo Cell in Mubuku Town Council.

According to SP Mbusa, the police have picked interest in finding out the cause as they direct the management of KCCL to forge ways of curtailing the water canal from becoming a threat to the community.

He, however, stressed that they suspect Nyakaisiki’s cases to be suicidal in nature, arguing that the victim left home at around 4am.
