Youth in Mahango support tree planting campaign on the Rwenzori Mountains

Residents of Mahango sub -county in Kasese have pledged to jealously uphold the call for tree planting on the Rwenzori Mountains so as to restore the snows that encourage tourism in the region.

The residents most of whom are youths under their umbrella “Mahango Youth Champions” explain that tree planting would be the only means to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Speaking to the press yesterday shortly after planting over 300 tree seedlings on Nyamutswa hills, one of the cultural heritages of Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu, the youth noted that they were concerned about the reduction of the snows that are being affected the prolonged dry spell.

The Chieftain for Nyamutswa hills, Mr. Kibingo Bwambale said with in partnership with Kasese Tourism Investors Forum, they would not allow the snows to reduce because they are ones making the region known worldwide.

The team leader Mahango Youth Champions, Mr. Julius Kasyakulhu noted that their participation in greening the district was to create avenues for more international events like Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon to her hosted in the area.

He challenged the public to distance political sides in the fight against climate change.
