The Ministry of Works and Transport on Friday officially launched the rehabilitation works of an 8.3 kilometer Mundongo – Nyakiyumbu – Munkunyu road in Kasese district and subsequently handed the site to the contractor.
The project worth over shillings 1.2 billion was handed over to Rotana International Limited as the official contractor will be completed in a period of six months.
Eng. Wilson Kafifi, who represented the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Works and Transport, told the people who had thronged Musyenene Trading Centre in Nyakiyumbu Sub-county to witness the official handover of the project that scope of the work would involve bush clearing and removal of top soil, site clearance, earth work, drainage works, gravelling and ancillary works.
Kafifi quickly requested the residents to work closely with the contractor.
Hon. Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga Kiime, the Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance, who represented the Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, said government has come up with a policy that Ministers should be launching and commissioning projects.
He noted that the rehabilitation works of the said road is part of the Parish Development Model project under the pillar of infrastructural development that aims at enabling transportation of agricultural produces.
The Kasese District Chairperson, Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi pledged to the contractor to consider employing the residents.
