The leadership of Kasese Municipal Council has revealed that the de-silting works on Kamulikwizi Water Drainage Channel in Nyamwamba Division played a big role in regulating stray floods from River Nyamwamba from causing a lot of havoc among the people living along the water channel.
On November 22, 2023, Kasese Municipal Council with funding from Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) officially launched a shillings 400 million project of de-silting and excavating 1.8 kilometers of Kamulikwizi Water Drainage Channel that stretches from Basecamp Lower via Kitooro, Mumbuzi, Mboghoyabo road, Kasese – Fort portal road and finally to Kamulikwizi cell where it pours its waters. The contract was awarded to Fencon Consulting Engineers.
In an interview with our reporter at his boardroom, the Kasese Municipality Mayor, Mr. Chance Kahindo, stressed that had it not been the efforts of FAO to fund the de-silting works on Kamulikwizi Water Drainage Channel, River Nyamwamba would have caused more havoc when it burst its banks last week.
The Mayor used the same platform to request FAO to continue supporting Kasese Municipal Council in her quest to complete the said water channel to stone pitching level.
Mr. Kahindo also hailed the contractor, Fencon Consulting Engineers for doing a tremendous work that saved many people living along the water channel from losing lives and property.
Mr. John Kisembo Siriwayo, the Kasese Municipal Secretary for Works and Technical Services lashed at a section of residents living along the water channel for allegedly being violent and resistant by the time the contractor was working the de-silting works.
