The people of Kasese have been called upon to embrace tree planting as a means to mitigate the effects of climate change.
Kasese has long suffered the devastating effects of climate change including a prolonged dry spell, landslides and flooding.
Now, Hearts of Gold, a socio-group for select individuals within the district, is rallying the people of Kasese and the Rwenzori sub region in general to make an effort to plant a tree.
Mr. Sam Baluku, the association chairperson says Hearts of Gold has already embarked on the planting of at least 1000 trees in selected spaces within the Central Business Area of Kasese town.
Baluku made the remarks over the weekend during the launch of the association at Bwiranda Hotel in Kasese town.
Rev. Fr. Joseph Tumusiime the Vocations Director for the Catholic Diocese of Kasese who also attended the ceremony appealed to the leadership of Hearts of Gold to ensure transparency as they execute their duties.
Lt. Joe Walusimbi, who was the chief guest, appreciated the association’s mission and objectives, and urged them stay clear of politics if the association will reach greater heights.
