The construction works of a 1.405 Mboghoyabo road and 200 kilometer Mandela road in Kasese Municipality under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructural Development –USMID have so far reached 97.03 % completion rate.
The said roads are being constructed by Techno Three (U) Ltd at a tune of shillings 16 billion under the supervision of Fencon Consulting Engineers.
Today morning, the Kasese Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon, Ferigo Kambale carried out an inspection exercise to ascertain the progress of the works being done by the contractor and discovered that they had reached 97.03%.
Faith Kwebaze Makombo from Fencon Consulting Engineers who read a report on behalf of the Resident Engineer, indicated that they were remaining with a few things so that Mboghoyabo road is handed over to government.
According to her, they are only remaining with the construction of manholes and completion of concrete of some water channels among others so that the works are completed.
The Kasese Deputy Town Clerk, Mr. Zedekiya Kambasu Kayiri, who appreciated the works so far done, told the inspection team that the contract has been extended to the end of the current Financial Year 2023/2024.
He, however, implored the Nyamwamba Division leadership where the project is being implemented to encourage the community members to interest themselves in loving the project through protecting the already planted trees along the roads.
In his remarks, Hon. Kambale who hailed the contractors and consulting Engineers for the good work done, said there was value for money, thus a credit to the NRM government.
He, however, directed the Municipal Engineer to liaise with the contractors and consulting team to expeditiously work on the drainage channels so that they do not become hazardous to the community members.
Mr. Pimako Kasereka, the Nyamwamba Division L. C III Chairperson requested for an excavator from the contractors so that the lower local government fuels it to de-silt some drainage channels that are located below the Kasese – Fort-portal Highway so that the floods are directed into the Queen Elizabeth National Park.
