Local authorities in Kasese on Sunday evening apprehended two individuals on charges of allegedly conspiring to install one of them as the new king for the Bakonzo ethnic group. The suspects were apprehended on the Royal Hill while reportedly attempting to carry out their unauthorized plan.

Nelson Tumushiime, the spokesperson for Rwenzori East Police, confirmed the arrests and shared that the detainees have been identified as Aiga Mumbere (23), a resident of Buhuhira Sub County, and Kasumali Bwambale (30), hailing from Nyambuku Parish in Maliba Sub County, Busongora County North.

The arrests were made after the individuals were found trespassing on the Royal Hill with what authorities suspect were intentions to carry out their unauthorized plans.

Both Mumbere and Bwambale are currently in custody at Kasese Central Police Station, where they will undergo further questioning as part of ongoing investigations.

SP Tumushiime disclosed that the two suspects were allegedly collaborating to install Mumbere as the new king for the Bakonzo ethnic community.
