Kasese Tourism Investors Forum, a member-based organization dedicated to promoting tourism in the Rwenzori region, has recently announced the commencement of activities and unveiled the roadmap for the highly anticipated 2023 Rwenzori Theluji festival. The festival is set to reach its pinnacle in September of this year.
The Rwenzori Theluji is an annual tourism festival that is characterized involves a number of activities including Miss Tourism, Cultural and Trade Expo and Explore Kasese among others.
Addressing the press on Friday afternoon at Virina Hotel in Kasese town, the National Chairperson for the Organizing Committee of the Rwenzori Theluji, Rev. Eng. Gabriel Fataki explained that this year’s festival has been organized under the theme, “Accelerating sustainable tourism investments in competitive and globalised market place by enhancing destination Kasese with memorable Rwenzori experience”
Engineer Fataki mentioned that during this year’s festival, they would carry out a community run, aerial tourism, greening and conserving the Rwenzori Eco-system, cultural biodiversity, business exhibition business summit and business workshop on mindset change, cleaning towns and cities in the Rwenzori region and miss tourism Rwenzori among others.
He noted that the Rwenzori Theluji festival will today be commissioned by the Miss Tourism Rwenzori Grand finale that is currently going on at the District Multipurpose hall. The Grand finale has attracted participants from the districts of Kasese, Kabarole, Bundibugyo, Ntoroko and Kamwenge among others that form the Rwenzori region.
Some of the participants in today’s competitions are Kevin Kabugho, Loreen Masika, Christine Eunice Kyakimwa, Natasha Delish, Macklin Aliganyira, Rachel Tumushabe and Bridget Kunihira among others.
Rev. Engineer Fataki also revealed that on August 19, 2023, there shall be a community run for talent development and identification from the local community, two weeks before the international marathon.
The community run shall feature 42 kilometres starting from Mariana in Kasese town to the Equator line in Kikorongo and back to Mariana and a 21 kilometer run from the Rwenzori Square in Kasese town to Ruboni Tourism Village Camp and back to the Rwenzori Square while the 5 kilometer Fataki Hill Walk Challenge shall start from the Rwenzori Square via the Catholic Diocese of Kasese Cathedral, Katadoba, Akebibiri trading centre and Kyapa hill.
While on September 02, Rev. Eng. Fataki said that there shall be Mount Rwenzori International Marathon which has been dubbed The Tusker Lite Mount Rwenzori Marathon that shall be the climax of the Rwenzori Theluji Festival.
According to him, it shall feature 42 km run that will start at Mariana in Kasese town to Equator line in Kikorongo and back to Mariana, 21km run start and finish at Mariana/Stanbic bank going to Kilembe twice while 5km run start and finish at Rwenzori square running via Kilembe road-Kyebambe road-Diocese of Kasese Cathedral and finally to Rwenzori square
The function shall also involve tree/ bamboo planting in the Industrial Park along Kasese – Mbarara in Kasese Municipality and along the river catchment areas.
During that same press conference, the Chairperson for Kasese Investors’ Tourism Forum, Mr. Benson Kule Baritazale and the Kasese District Tourism Officer, Jovia Mbambu appealed to the community in the district to use the available tourism attractions for economic and social transformation.
