The UPDF Engineering Brigade has started the construction works of a storied staff house and an Outpatient department –OPD at Rukooki Health Centre IV in Kasese Municipality.
The construction works started Monday with the ground breaking ceremony officiated over by Mr. Zepher Mubingwa, the Kasese Deputy RDC in-charge of Busongora County and the District Chairperson, Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi.
Lt. Engineer Asanairi Thembo Bituhura, the Site Engineer told the different stakeholders during the ground breaking ceremony that the OPD would house 40 apartments including the pharmacy, clinical room and a dressing room among others.
The Army Officer also noted that the storied staff house which will be self contained will be housing at least four staff members ready for duty at any time.
Officiating at the function, Mr. Mubingwa explained that the government embarked on constructing Rukooki Health centre in fulfillment of one of the NRM’s four pillars including socio – economic development.
According to him, government is fighting poverty through many interventions including provision of improved health services.
In his remarks, Mr. Muhindi appealed to the UPDF Engineering Brigade to also consider working on the Maternity Ward that has already been roofed using the money collected from the recent marathon.
The Kasese Municipality Mayor, Mr. Chance Kahindo, requested government to also consider working on Kilembe Mines Hospital through expediting the process of reactivating its credit line for drugs.
However, Mr. Elias Byamungu, the District Chief Administrative Officer, revealed that he had received a directive from the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Diana Atwine authorizing him to reallocate health workers on government payroll to other health facilities.
