A female nurse attached to Kasese District Local Government is pending dismissal for having been recruited on alleged forged academic documents, the Chief Administrative Officer has disclosed.
The said nurse whose name has been withheld is believed to have been on the government payroll for the last twelve years.
The Kasese District Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Edward Kasagara revealed the development today morning during a community baraza organized by the Inspectorate of Government that was held at the Multipurpose Social Hall in Nyamwamba Division.
The inspectorate charged with the efficient and effective public service delivery decided to commemorate the international OMBUDSMAN Day in Kasese so as to get feedback about service delivery to the people.
An ombudsman is an independent body that investigates complaints about unfair, unreasonable or improper conduct by the government agencies or organizations aiming at ensuring that there is fairness and accountability.
Mr. Kasagara indicated that he came to learn about the incident last week, when a whistle blower hailing from Bukonzo County West reached him and disclosed that there was someone allegedly on the government payroll but has never attended any nursing training school.
According to the CAO, he called that person and told her to appear at his office the following morning but all in vain, prompting him to move a step of suspending the release of her salary and submitted her to the sanctions and rewards committee where another decision for dismissal might arise.
Kasagara also regretted that the habit of presenting forged documents by the people seeking employment in the civil service was common in the district.
He revealed that they discovered another one on the recruitment process who had forged A’ Level documents, seeking employment as a Clinical Officer.
The CAO has since encouraged the local population to embrace the fight against corruption by giving information to the government.
The Head of the Civil Servants in the district also told the meeting that the Ministry of Public Service was investigating the alleged cases of absenteeism among staff at Bwera Government General Hospital, noting that the Permanent Secretary had already taken note of the matter.
Mr. Ivan Magala, the Regional Head of Government Inspectorate, encouraged the citizens to take keen interest in understanding what their local government does for them and assess their quality and accountability.
