At least four survivor students of the Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Secondary School June 2023 ADF rebel attack, who are currently candidates at Kasese Secondary School in Kasese Municipality are set to sit for their Uganda Certificate of Education (U.C.E) starting on Monday October 12.
On June 16, 2023, the ADF rebels attacked Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Secondary School located in Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Town Council, Kasese District and killed 42 people including 38 students, 1 security guard and 3 local residents (ranging in age from 12 to 95), with 8 others injured.
Mr. Joseph Nzukwa, the Head teacher at Kasese Secondary School says that after the attack, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kasese, the Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira, decided to take care of the 11 survivors and enrolled them at his school.
Mr. Nzukwa says last year, six of them sat for their Uganda Certificate of Education examinations and this year, four will sit for their examinations while one other learner transferred to another school.
He sounded the remarks today while briefing the 2026 candidates at his institution and asked them to follow all the UNEB guidelines towards examinations. Nzukwa urged both the parents and learners to fully prepare for the examinations since they will be done during the rainy season. He cited need for the candidates to have gumboots, umbrellas and rain coats.
Mr. Nzukwa, who reported that his school has 216 candidates, warned them against drug abuse, gambling and joining bad peer groups which he said might affect their educational career.
On Tuesday while at the floor of Parliament, the Bukonzo County East Member of Parliament in Kasese District, Hon. Dr. Julius Monday Bwambale Rude, who also doubles as the Chairperson for the Health Committee of Parliament, observed the need for the government to use alternative analysis machines to get the results of the 11 students who were among the victims of the attack and their DNA results have remained negative.
