Couples urged refrain from seeking marital advice from unmarried persons

The Kasese Deputy Resident District Commissioner in -charge of Bukonzo County has warned couples against seeking marital advice from unmarried persons.

Lt. Maate Magwara sounded the warning on Friday during a community meeting with the residents of Buswagha village in Kitabu sub- county, Bukonzo County East.

The meeting which was held at Kalitusi Trading Center aimed at devising means of reuniting Ms Esther Kabugho and her husband John Masereka with the entire family members and the community after nearly two months when Kabugho had been displaced from her marital home on allegations of sorcery.

Lt. Magwara warned that what is currently affecting the sustainability of families is the practice through which married women and men associate with those who have either divorced or those that have never formed any families, arguing that they mislead them to separate from one another so that they share the same status in the society.

He urged those in marriage to always seek guidance from those who have sustained families for a long period of time.

Mr. Rabson Thembo, the Kasese District Probation Officer, also encouraged partners to shy away from activities that can cause violence within families. According to him, children raised from violent marriages lack parental care, good child upbringing and holistic care.

Ms. Jaqueline Akong, who works at Kasese GBV shelter and a worker of Justice for Livelihoods, an organization that fights for the rights of women and children, warned that the human rights law forbids gender-based violence.
