Phebryn Nyaboosi says that the effects of climate change have adversely affected agricultural production in a district where the vast majority are dependent on agriculture as a major source of employment and, subsequently, a major source of income.
Nyaboosi opines that prolonged dry spells are hitting farmers hard because while for others crops are drying, the cattle keepers also do not have water to feed their animals.
She wondered why Kasese continues to depend on natural rainfall yet the district is endowed with an abundance of water bodies ranging a plethora of rivers to the multiple fresh water lakes from which water can be tapped to feed the agricultural farms.
She argued that this is the time to also encourage farmers to embrace climate smart agriculture.
According to the weather forecast released by the Ministry of Water and Environment, Kasese is expected to receive isolated rains mid this month. ENDS
