At least 2,000 people from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have shown interest to participate in this year’s pilgrimage to Namugongo for the Uganda Martyrs’ Day celebrations.
This year’s celebrations slated for June 03 will be animated by the Diocese of Kasese under the theme, “Christ is Alive in You and Me.
The Bishop of the Diocese of Kasese, the Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibiira says the 2,000 Congolese have shown interest to journey with him.
He notes that the participation of the Congolese is a sign of love and appreciation for the growth of Christianity in Uganda.
Bishop Kibira reveals that they are currently in the process of registering the names and particulars of the Congolese with the security agencies and clearing them with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
As part of mobilization and preparation for the pilgrimage, Bishop Kibira today celebrated mass with Kasese District Staff and briefed with about the far the Diocese had reached in mobilizing for the resources both locally and nationally.
He asked them to support the noble cause and commit themselves to prayer in order for the function registers success.
The Kasese District Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Edward Kasagara, pledged that the Local Government would support the noble cause and subsequently announced a shillings 16 million donation and handed a cash of shillings 08 million to the Bishop.
The Kasese District Vice Chairperson, Jerevesious Monday Bwambale, lauded the Bishop for championing evangelism coupled development especially in the sectors of health, education and socio-economic transformation.
