The Kasese District Chairperson has revealed that the Local Government will be among the districts to benefit from the newly introduced program codenamed “Local Economic Growth Support Project (LEGS).”
The LEGS is a strategic initiative by the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Local Government that seeks to uplift the economic well-being of rural communities by improving access to safe water, enhancing agricultural productivity, promoting environmental conservation and strengthening local value chains.
Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi says that the program is in response to Uganda’s National Local Economic Development Policy, adopted in 2014 to contribute to the long-term development goals by supporting community –driven solutions and enterprise growth of the people.
Addressing the communities of Kitswamba Sub-county yesterday, Muhindi explained that the said project had been successfully implemented in some districts and will be extended to other 55 Local Governments including Kasese.
Muhindi was happy that the program would facilitate agricultural growth, hence enabling the farmers to get enough food and money.
Muhindi also asked the people to embrace irrigation farming for a sustained production of crops.
He asserted that the district was injecting money in establishing mini-irrigation schemes in some constituencies for the locals to produce food irrespective of the weather changes.
