Over 100 market vendors in Kyondo Cell of Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality on Tuesday morning forcefully grabbed a plot of land after being chased away from a place where they have been operating from for close to 6 years.
Mr. Emmanuel Katuramu, the area L.C I Chairperson has confirmed the development to our reporter, saying the vendors who have been operating from someone’s plot were chased away.
The incident forced them to grab a nearby plot of land whose ownership remains unclear.
He has since requested the government to humbly handle the vendors well as they look forward to get a possible solution to the challenge.
According to him, the vendors should be resettled within Kyondo Cell so that they operate freely.
Janet Kabugho, the Chairperson for the vendors in Kyondo Cell, said they were left with no option apart from grabbing the nearby plot because the government has never allegedly taken any action despite them paying taxes.
Kabugho narrated that they saw it wise to grab the nearby plot of land since they have children to care for and the loans that they are servicing.
Peninah Nakirijah, one of the market vendors told our reporter that their intention was not to grab the land for their ownership but to temporarily occupy it as they wait for the government to relocate them to another place within Kyondo Cell.
