Kasese District Local Government is hunting for a Parish Chief accused of allegedly absconding duty and mismanaging the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM) Programme.
The hunted Parish Chief is deployed at Kayanja Parish in Nyakiyumbu Sub-county, Bukonzo County West.
The Kasese District Chairperson, Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi, yesterday told the press that when they held a joint monitoring and supervision of the implementation of government projects across the district last week, they found out that the residents were complaining of having been violated by the said Parish Chief.
The District Boss, who didn’t disclose the name of the suspect, indicated that the Parish Chief had collected about shillings 4.5 million from the people intending to benefit from the government programme.
Muhindi revealed that when they approached the Sub-county leadership, they were told that in addition to the allegations of mismanaging the PDM programme, the suspect had also absconded duty for now three months.
He has since directed the Chief Administrative Officer and the Sub-county Chief to hunt for the suspect and arrest him so that he answers the charges that shall be preferred against him.
Mr. Muhindi vowed that suspects with similar cases had been reported to his office and the security agencies for investigations, asking the implicated persons to willingly surrender the money that they collected from the intending beneficiaries of the PDM programme.
Muhindi reiterated that he had come with new strategies of dealing with the corrupt officials that would be sighted in the Service Commission, a reason why he appointed a priest who according to him is open-minded against the vice.
The Kasese RDC, Joe Walusimbi, appealed to the council members to strengthen their oversight role over the government programs being implemented in their respective areas, threatening that would not tolerate whoever would be implicated in the act of corruption to remain on the government payroll.
