The police in Kasese District have ganged up against some drivers and motorists who transport the learners using vehicles that are in poor mechanical conditions, overload and overspeed them.
This, according to police would help to reduce the number of traffic accidents and also protect the learners from being harmed.
The Rwenzori East Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime says they have noted with concern that transporters of children going to school use vehicles that do not meet the traffic standards while others drive under the influence of alcohol hence putting the lives of learners at risk.
Tumushime also says the drivers should be careful during the rainy season because floods block some roads.
A case in point is the recent incident where floods blocked parts of Kasese – Kikorongo Highway especially at Muhokya and Kikorongo.
Tumushime says they registered three cases of road accidents last week where one person died and others injured.
