Residents of Bwenanule express dissatisfaction over the establishment of a military detach in the area

The leadership of St. Joseph Bwenanule-Kinyabakazi Roman Catholic Church in Muhokya Town Council, Busongora County South in Kasese District is demanding explanations from the government over the establishment of a military detach at the church.

The leaders argue that the detach has blocked worshippers from accessing the church for a mass every Sunday.

Chairman AsasioKasoro, says the congregation was allegedly forced to hold their prayers outside since the security personnel had moved their belongings near the alter.

Kasoro stresses that they want the government to come out and explain to them why they have taken over their church.

Local leaders including Johnson Kasoke and Simon Tera, the Bwenanule-Kinyabakazi NRM Chairperson, condemned the act, suggesting alternative locations for the security team.

Mr. Saulo Maate, the Kasese District Chairperson for People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) says he is concerned over the violation of people’s freedom of worship coupled with the role of security forces in the community spaces.

Responding to the community concerns over the establishment of a military detach in the area, an official from the office of the Rwenzori East Regional Police who spoke to the press on condition of anonymity said the area doesn’t have a police post to tighten the security, a reason why they opted for the establishment of a military detach.

However, the military detach was established last week when the Office of the Prime Minister was allegedly looking for 200 acres of land bought to resettle the flood victims currently encamped at Muhokya. ENDS
