Kasese Grade I Magistrate’s Court sentences an 18-year-old man to 9 months

The Kasese Grade I Magistrate’s Court has sentenced an 18-year-old man to 9 months in Mubuku Government Prison on charges of theft.

Court sitting today afternoon at Rukoki and presided over by His Worship Faishal Mbale Ngamije heard that on October 11, 2025 while at Kihara Trading Centre in Nyamwamba Division, Joseph Bwambale, 18, stole two Itel Smartphones and cash amounting to shillings 142,000 belonging to John Sibughenderwa of the same area.

According to prosecution evidence brought against the accused, on the fateful day, Bwambale together with others, while at the complainant’s bar at Kihara Trading Centre, there ensued a serious fight that prompted the owner of the business to leave the counter and joined to calm down the situation.

When he returned to the counter, he noticed that two of his Smartphones and his money had got lost in the scuffle. He quickly told neighbours and a day after, Bwambale was spotted with the two Smartphones looking for market so that he sells them off.

He was later arrested and handed over to police at Rukoki and later arraigned in the courts of law to answer the charges that had been preferred against him.  

While appearing before court today, Bwambale accepted the charges and was convicted before being sentenced to 9 months in Mubuku Government Prison or pay a fine of shillings 300,000 on his plea of guilty.

Court also ordered Bwambale to pay shillings 140,000 to the complainant as compensation within a period of two months.
