The need to extend safe and clean drinking water to the water stressed areas in Busongora County South, Kasese district has dominated campaign manifestos of the candidates who are competing for the NRM party flag on the position of the area Member of Parliament.
Over the weekend, all the four candidates thronged Kahokya sub-county headquarters and told the residents that they would work on the challenge of lack of safe and drinking water should they go through the primary elections slated for July 17, this year and subsequently hold the flag to the 12th Parliament of Uganda after sailing through the General Elections.
They all made it clear that such a challenge leads to the prevalence of diseases hence affecting the development of the constituency.
Hon. Gideon Thembo Mujungu, the incumbent legislator confirmed that most areas in the constituency were facing a challenge of lack of access to safe and clean drinking water, a reason why he is seeking a second term to address the issue.
In his part, Mr. Boaz Kafuda, a former area legislator revealed that top on his agenda was the issue of solving the challenge of lack of access to safe and clean drinking water and electricity. According to him, despite most areas having access to the poles, five years the road, people are still living in total darkness.
Mr. Aminadabu Muhindo, a former RDC stressed that he had started lobbying for the extension of water in some areas with its source of River Dunguluha even before being elected as the area Member of Parliament.
Muhindo also told the gathering that if elected a Member of Parliament, he would lobby for State House Scholarships so as to address the educational challenges in the constituency coupled with fighting corruption.
Mr. David Isimbwa Mulindwa, another contestant pledged to address the challenge o unemployment among the youth in the constituency through skilling them.
