Dr. Emmanuel Alex Elubu, a medic at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala has observed the need to investigate the reasons why most cancer cases overwhelming the Uganda Cancer Institute come from Kasese district.
Dr. Elubu made the observation today while addressing the people who had thronged the health facility for an official opening of an endoscopy, colonoscopy and a telemedicine unit.
The Medical Doctor, who stressed that most cancer cases are among the youth both males and females, explained that they needed to be addressed as soon as possible after finding out their possible causes.
He, however, told the gathering that most people were contracting cancer as a result of eating over fried food and consuming foodstuffs that are grown using chemicals like pesticides and fertilizers among others.
To address the challenge, Dr. Elubu advised the people to always go for early diagnosis so that such cases are worked upon.
Dr. Bernard Kamalha Balyana, the Board Chairperson at Kasese Hospital was hopeful that the endoscopy machine which costs shillings 98 million would address the challenge of people trekking long distances in search of cancer screaming services among other infections.
Rev. Ezra Mukonzo Yongeza, the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu Minister in-charge of Religious Affairs hailed the facility management for the development and extending services nearer to the community members.
Earlier in his preaching while leading the mass at the facility, Rev. Fr. Anyasio Mbusa, the Director at Caritas Kasese commended the hospital management for such a milestone of acquiring specialized medical equipments but challenged the medics to properly utilize them while executing their duties.
