Kyarumba sub-county in Kasese district financially constrained to deliver effective services to the residents

BY MATHIUS KAHUNGU

The authorities in Kyarumba sub-county, Bukonzo County East in Kasese district have reported that the lower local government is financially constrained to offer effective services to residents.

The leaders argue that since creation of Kyarumba Town Council out of the mother Kyarumba Sub-county, most sources of local revenue and service centres were taken by the new administrative unit, leaving the lower local government with limited resources.

Mr. Moses Mbokani, the Chief for Buthale Parish who represented the Sub-county Chief at a community baraza organized by Kasese District Local Government at Kisinga Primary School told the gathering there was an urgent need by government to increase the sources of local revenue and some social service centres like schools and health facilities.

The Community Baraza was organized purposely to pave way for the leaders to give accountabilities to the general public as well as seeking a feedback from the community members.

In his response, the Kasese Assistant District Health Officer in-charge of Environmental Health, Mr. Stephen Bagonza revealed that service delivery especially in the health sector has been hampered by the government policy of ceasing Health Centre IIs and replacing them with Health Centre IIIs, something he said is in the pipeline.

Details about the community baraza will come your way in our subsequent News broadcasts. ENDS
