President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reiterated government commitment to conserve wetlands for environmental conservation.
The President sounded during the celebrations of the World Wetlands Day which held was held at Katerera Playgrounds in Katerere Town Council in Rubirizi District and was celebrated under the theme “Conserving wetlands today for a secure tomorrow.
The President’s written message was delivered by the Vice President, Rtd. Maj. Jesca Alupo, who represented the President at the function as the Chief Guest.
Museveni said that in many parts of the country, individuals and communities have illegally occupied wetland areas practicing farming while also establishing settlements leading to the degradation and destruction of the natural wetland ecosystem.
In his written message, President Museveni commended the leadership and natives of Rubirizi district for protect and conserving wetlands and other natural resources, calling for other developing partners to desist from setting up factories and industries in the already gazzated wetlands.
President Museveni strongly Ugandans to stop pointing fingers and blaming National Environment Management Authority- NEMA and the inline Ministry but rather support the institutions by re-puting and stopping continued wetland degradation beginning within your neighbourhood.
