Residents in Kasese district have been encouraged to embrace the idea of acquiring titles of their various pieces of land in an attempt to protect them from grabbers.
The encouragement was sounded last evening by the Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Florence Kabugho while addressing a section of residents from Mitibiri and Nyamirami in Muhokya Sub-county during their community meeting that was held at St. John’s Mitibiri Church of Uganda.
Hon. Kabugho explained that government was planning to table in Parliament a land bill and that would see Article 237(1) of the Constitution amended. The said Article states that land belongs to the citizens of Uganda while Article 26 (1) protects the right to own property.
According to her if the bill is approved, land would this time round belong to government.
She, however, stressed that to avoid being affected by such bills, people have to process land titles.
At the same meeting, two people from the ruling NRM and the opposition NUP political parties defected to FDC. They include Simon Masereka from Kinyateke village and Ms Lazeri Mbambu who were officially welcomed by Mr. Ronald Bwambale Kabuku, the Kasese District FDC Chairperson.
Kabuku asked the defectors to mobilize for the party ahead of the forthcoming 2026 General Elections.
In a jovial mood, the defectors said they decided to join FDC following the alleged unfilled pledges by their former political parties to them.
