BY JOACKIM KULE

Three members of the committee that was constituted to probe the alleged corruption tendencies in Kasese District have declined to append their signatures on the report that has been compiled detailing the findings.

On September 13, Kasese District Council constituted a seven member committee chaired by Morris Kabunzungwire, the Councilor representing Kinyamaseke Town Council to investigate the allegations of corruption in the District Service Commission, District Executive Committee and Human Resource sections.

The committee that officially started its work on September 24 was also charged with the responsibility of holding open public meetings or rallies to ascertain if the allegations of corruption were true and then report to council for perusal.

While handing over the report to the District Council Speaker at the District Council hall in Rukoki, Mr. Kabunzungwire noted that he managed to collect only four signatures of the committee members who were entrusted with the responsibility to carry out the investigations. According to him, other three members of the committee declined to append their signatures on the report.

Those who signed on the report are Morris Kabunzungwire, Happy Christopher, Rita Biira, and Moreen Confidence Biira and those who declined to append their signatures on the same report are Mr. Charles Kaliba, Bernard Masereka and Sylvia Agaba.

However, the Chairperson told the gathering that he was not aware of the reasons why other members declined to append their signatures.

While receiving the report, the District Council Speaker, Johnson Mayora revealed that it would be discussed during an extra ordinary council sitting slated for December 03.
