The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has disclosed that their continuous recruitments of young people into the forces is meant to heighten the security of the ever-growing population across the country.

Col. Richard Sseguya Kitatta, the Mountain Divisional Operations and Training Officer, made the revelation today afternoon while speaking to journalists during the recruitment exercise targeting 209 young and energetic people from Kasese district at the Rwenzori Square in Kasese town.

He explained that growth of Uganda’s population calls for more security personnel to protect the people and their property so that peace continues to prevail for the residents to realize development in their respective communities.

Col. Kitatta who heads the recruitment Team in the Rwenzori Region highlighted that the recruits were not only being recruited to protect the people but also to fill the gaps created by some retiring officers.

The Army Officer said he was impressed that the young people had embraced the idea of joining the forces, describing the act as the spirit of patriotism and love for the country.

He also revealed few of the youth who turned up for the exercise presented fake documents while others were above the age that they were looking for.

He called on the parents and guardians to ensure taking their children to schools in order for them to acquire formal education so that they are enabled to benefit from some employable jobs.
